No fewer than one hundred patients have been benefiting from the Ilerioluwa free surgical exercise which commenced on Saturday at the Ijesaland Geriatric Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.
The free surgery was organised and sponsored by the friends and associates of the immediate past Governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola in commemoration of his 70th birthday.
The patients were those referred for surgeries after undertaking preliminary medical investigation during a week-long medical outreach equally sponsored by same friends and associates of Oyetola to celebrate the former Osun governor's 70th birthday.
Speaking on the successful implementation of the free medical and surgical exercise, the head of the surgical team, Dr. Adeleke acknowledged the huge success recorded since the commencement of the exercise.
According to the surgeon, all the patients that came for the surgical operations were attended to, saying those who underwent eye surgery of different cases had similarly been attended to and discharged after treatment.
He noted that the exercise would continue until every registered patient is operated.
According to the information, there were over 100 people that registered for the surgery whereas a great number of them had been successfully operated as at the time the information was released.
"As you can see we started with about 10 patients early this morning before the number started increasing exponentially as the patients who had registered started coming in. All of those that came today were attended to. We have successfully operated many of them and as it is, we are ready to do more to cover the list.
" We have operated many of those that came for eye surgery and I am very sure that the outstanding patients would still be treated as long as we have them on the list ", he assured.
Some of the beneficiaries of the free surgery lauded the initiative, describing it unprecedented in the political history of the state.
