President Bola Tinubu has nominated lawyer Saseyi Ibiyemi as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State.
If confirmed by the Senate, Ibiyemi will succeed ‘Niyi Ijalaye, a fellow lawyer who passed away in August while serving as REC in Ogun State, according to a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
Ibiyemi, 58, from Ilaje in Ondo State, is currently the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Lagos State. She earned her law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was called to the bar in 1988.
She also holds a Master’s in Election Management from Bingham University in Nasarawa State.
Additionally, President Tinubu has nominated Abdulrazak Tukur as a National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) representing the North West.
Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University, both in England.
He began his career at INEC in 1999, rising to Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, a position he held until December 2023.
Both Ibiyemi and Tukur await Senate confirmation for their appointments.
