The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Federal Government for its proactiveness in acting timeously over the proposed relocation of the MKO Abiola International Airport from Ido-Osun to Ede, the hometown of the ruling Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The futile relocation of the 88-year-old airport by Governor Adeleke to his town has been causing series of crises in Ido-Osun, the host community, where there had been protests and demonstrations by the women, the youths and different segments of the populace of the ancient town who saw the now bungled relocation effort as an act of executive recklessness and oppression by the ruling government.
The unpopular relocation bid of the airport by the governor to his town has always been attracting negative comments from within and outside the shores of this country as no tenable reason could be adduced for the relocation of the airport other than an unfair desire to exhibit a wicked attribute of favouritism and nepotism.
The relocation saga of the airport had heightened tension which had enveloped the state and proved to be a focal point for the urgent need by any serious government at the centre to have intervened at the right time to douse the tension over either the building or relocation of any airport by this time in the history of the state that can hardly grow its Internally Generated Revenue(IGR).
One does not need to be a technical expert to know that it is an act of tomfoolery for a state government to dump a project that had gulped billions of naira in the past and be shopping for mundane and pedestrian reasons for its relocation which has succeeded in causing the Peoples Democratic Party PDP-run administration in the state a monumental popularity deficit.
This bungled airport relocation saga has, to a large extent, exposed the administration of Governor Adeleke as deviously lacking in planning but prioritizing the running of government by impulse which has caused the state a lot of havoc since the intervention of the PDP-run government into the political theatre of the state about 26 months ago.
It was a good thing that the Federal Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acted promptly by checkmating another visible action of financial recklessness by Governor Adeleke through a directive from the Federal Ministry of Aviation that the turning of the sod of the proposed airport in Ede should be put on hold pending the determination of some unresolved issues.
Governor Adeleke should stop rubbing salt on the injury of the people of Osun State as there is no reason under the sun to justify the renaming of the bungled relocated airport in his late brother's name, the first executive governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, who occupied the mantle of political leadership of the state for less than two years.
The earlier Governor Adeleke is in the know of the fact that Osun State is not a private property of the Adelekes, the better it will be for him as his current approach to governance where there is over-concentration of developmental projects in Ede, his home town, would later hunt him till eternity.
It is a shame that a government that is yet to meet its welfarism obligations optimally to the citizenry could have its actors waking up from the wrong side of their bed and brazenly engage on any project that could not impact positively on the people.
If not an act of wickedness, why can't Governor Adeleke fulfil his campaign promise of paying up all the outstanding modulated salary arrears within the six months of his administration if truly he has too much money to build an airport?
