Activities to commence the scheduled events of of the Ijesa Unity Carnival, a variation of the annual Iwude Ijesa festival successfully commenced on Friday, December 13, 2024, as muslim faithfuls converged at the Iloko-Ijesa Central Mosque to thank God for his mercies upon all Ijesa sons and daughters.
Led in prayer by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Imam Ismail Ibrahim, the congregation also prayed Allah to protect attendees and visitors to all the planned events scheduled for the celebration, and cause greater goodness for Ijesa people wherever they may be.
The prayer session, a gesture of gratitude and thanksgiving to Almighty Allah for successfully witnessing another festival year was intended to mark the commencement of 2024 edition of the festival while acknowledging the divine guidance that has led to another rebranding of the rebranded editions.
The curtain-raiser provided an opportunity for the Chief Imam of the mosque to pray for Ijesaland and offer words of advice and encouragement.
In his preaching, Imam Ismail Ibrahim posited that the celebration provided an avenue to highlight the place of unity among Ijesa people at home and abroad as he equally emphasized on the fear of Allah as the beginning of wisdom.
The well attended event which was hosted by Iloko-Ijesa Traditional Council in conjunction with Owaloko-in-Council was witnessed by royal majesties led by Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe and also in attendance were Oba Akintola, the newly installed Alua of Erin-Oke, Oba Michael Adedeji, Adooko of Ido -Oko, Oba Amos Ogidiolu, Oniwoye of Iwoye-Ijesa, Oba Michael Adejola, Olomo of Omo-Ijesa, the Onitegun of Itegun and Prince Adebayo Ogungbangbe Osun State Commissioner for Cooperative and Empowerment.
In a brief remark at the event, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola who led the Iwude Ijesa Planning Committee members and some representatives of some clubs and Societies to the Mosque thanked the Muslim community for their warm reception as he elaborated on the need for Ijesa people to intensify on the already existing unity being enjoyed and that is giving lots of positive dividends.
Events of the Ijesa Unity Carnival will continue on Sunday, 15th December 2024 with a Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold at 10.00 a.m. at THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH, Oke-Ooye, Ilesa. Dress code agreed by the logistic committee being White and Gold.
