It is deeply disheartening to learn that some princes from the Bilaro ruling house have impetuously pursued the title of Loja, fully aware that "Loja" serves as a stepping stone or a prerequisite to becoming the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
What is even more troubling is the collaboration of certain kings within Ijesaland, who are compromising the culture and traditions of the land by installing Lojas in villages and hamlets within their domains. This is a blatant disregard for the sacred customs of Ijesaland.
At this time, as we collectively round up mourning the passing of the late Owa Obokun, it is a sacrilege for any Loja to be installed. Traditionally, Lojas are meant to be appointed only by the sitting Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, in accordance with the customs.
Our investigation has uncovered that the princes involved, who are largely ignorant of the customs and traditions of Ijesaland, have paid large sums of money to acquire this title.
In days to come, we will release the names of those emerged Lojas, both within Nigeria and abroad, as well as the kings involved in this irregular practice.
