Ijesa Community hands over Faculty of Nursing Sciences Laboratory Building to UniIlesa






The Ijesa Community in the guise of the Ijesa Endowment Fund for the University of Ilesa on Friday, January 3rd  2025. handed over N180 million modern Nursing Sciences Laboratory built and equipped to the University of Ilesa management.






The laboratory handover forms part of the leaders and stakeholders of ljesaland decision to support the government with some measure of expenditure of the university.


Recall that a standard Nursing Sciences Laboratory was emphasized during the resource verification of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria as a prerequisite for approval of a Department of Nursing for the University.  This has been achieved through the laudable intervention by the Ijesa community; a giant step in uplifting the physical development of the University by its stakeholders. 




Speaking during the Inauguration/Handing over of the project, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Ijesa Endowment Fund for the University of Ilesa Chief Akinwande Akinola said the gesture was part of the implementation of the decision of Ijesa stakeholders to support the government on an effective takeoff of the University.


"We planned that the building, which we started from the scratch would be completed and delivered within six months.


"By the grace of God and the unbeatable determination of Ijesa people, we achieved that feat.


"It is expected that by this handing over today, in expectation of the resumption of students next Monday, the óth of January, the Laboratory, which is now fully furnished, is commemorated for immediate and active use." Said Chief Akinola 




While extending his warm appreciation to the donors, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the University, Hon. Gbenga Onigbogi mentioned three other notable contributions to the infrastructural development of the University by Ijesa individuals; Dame Yinka Obaleye, a distinguished entrepreneur is building a entrepreneurship Centre, which will be named after her, Otunba Mrs. Debola Osibogun (Nee Agbeja) is constructing a Moot and Trial Court for the Faculty of Law, to be named David Olatunde Agbeja Moot Court and Mr. Sunday Omole has donated 50 solar streetlight panels to the University. 


"| commend the Board of Trustees of ljesa Endowment Fund for University of Ilesa, led by High Chief Akin Akinola, for mobilizing resources and ensuring that the project is completed in good time and of good quality. Their selfless efforts are appreciated, along with the pro bono contributions of our sons and daughters who are technocrats in the field of project execution.


"The Ijesa community has invested approximately N180 Million in this project, with N150 Million going into construction of the building and N30 Million for counterpart funding out of the NI00 Million required to equip the laboratory." Hon Gbenga Onigbogi remarked 





The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu in his address expressed his confidence that the Nursing and Midwifery Council will be pleased with the University for honoring the commitment to provide a Nursing laboratory.


"Our University is generally dedicated to maintaining high academic standards, and particularly in professional courses like nursing sciences, law, medical laboratory sciences, physiotherapy, optometry, etc.


Also appreciating the support the University is getting from the State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke Prof. Taiwo Asaolu informed the gat hering that the Governor has made available over N4 billion to the University within the last twenty months for resource verification, renovation, and upgrading of infrastructural facilities.


"This has enabled us to have 67 NUC-approved programmes. We have also been able to present 23 academic programmes under the University of Ilesa and 9 programmes under the Degree Bachelor of Education, University of Ibadan's Bachelor programmes for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The VC said as he announced that the University Senate has approved additional programmes, including Medicine and Surgery, Special Education, Childhood Care Education, French Language, Chinese Studies, Yoruba Language and Agriculture Sciences. These programmes will soon be presented to the NUC for resource verification and are expected to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.







The highlights of the event featured handing over of the keys to the laboratory building to the University management, cutting of the tapes to Inaugurate the edifice and a facility tour of the laboratory conducted by Prof. Ganiyat Ishola, Dean, Faculty of Medicine.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of Ijesa Endowment Fund for University of Ilesa, High Chief Akin Akinola, was surrounded at the occasion distinguished members of the Board including Lady Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo, the Secretary, Prof. Rotimi Tayo, Prince Dr. Gbenga Lufadeju, Rtd. Col. Dr. Lawrence Akin Moses, Engr. Yemi Oguntominiyi, Chief Afolabi Igbaroola and Alagba Wale Idowu.


Also in the entourage are Bóbagúnwà Remi Oyeyemi, Engr. Okebiorun, Yeyelua Yemisi Ariyibi, Chief Mrs Yemisi Iyanda, Barr. Ademola Adeyoju and Mr. Anthony Ayo Ayeni.
