The President of Ilesa Grammar School old students Association 1973/78 set, Mr. Babatunde Adewale has restated the commitment of the members of the set to continue to play a prominent role in the development of their alma mater by their selfless service initiatives.
Adewale made this statement in his charge to members as he reiterated his belief in the fact that without qualified teachers in ILEGRAMS, changing the fortunes of the school will be a daunting task.
While introducing the Teachers Intervention Programme at the Annual General Meeting of the set, held on Saturday, inside the Canon J.A. Akinyemi Memorial Building in the school premises, Babatunde Adewale remarked that after consultation with the School Principal, the Executive Committee of the association realized that the Senior Secondary School (SSS) classes have no English and Chemistry teachers.
“The goal of the programme is to search for qualified teachers that will be paid from the purse of the association to improve the academic performance of the school, thereby restoring the lost glory,
“In the immediate, English and Chemistry teachers are needed, to be employed by our set as PTA teachers."
In order to underscore the association's commitment and also jumpstart this process, some members have donated over One Million Naira (N1m) to the Teacher’s Intervention Fund (TIF), which was established to fund the monthly payment of the teachers and a 3-member adhoc committee was set up to recruit the teachers.
Other members are also encouraged to contribute to the Intervention Fund.
The Annual General Meeting where members of the set from far and near were in attendance was a memorable moment that will remain in the heart of the attendees for a long time as bantering and reliving of old school days memories were accompanied with exhilarating laughter.
Also, Prof. Olusola Famurewa (nee Fabiyi) who recently bagged her professorship was felicitated and Mr Olubunmi Oladele Isola was celebrated for being appointed the Chairman and Olori Ebi of Loro Ilesa Chieftaincy Family.
