Assist affected residents with relief materials, FG, NEMA told as devastating rainstorm caused havoc in Atakumosa west LG communities

Reinstated Chairman, Atakunmosa West local government area of Osun State, Honourable Dare Ajumobi, has appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Government to come to the aid of people of the council area.

Dare Ajumobi made the call while speaking to journalists in Osu on Saturday.

Some communities in Atakumosa west local government area were on Friday affected by a devastating rainstorm that ravaged the area and rendered thousands of residents homeless and stranded causing hardship.

According to him, the rainstorm destroyed hundreds of houses in various towns of the council area.

"We appeal to NEMA to please come to our aid. The rainstorm was devastating. About five communities namely: Okebode, Ila-Ijesa, Ifewara and Isolo were seriously affected".

"As a local government there is little we can do, but we believe the federal government through its relevant agencies, can rise up and help our people bounce back and pick up their lives".

Honourable Dare Ajumobi sympathised with the people of the affected area, expressing optimism that the federal government and NEMA rise up to the occasion as soon as possible.

"As a government, We sympathise with those affected, infact it is disheartening to see people in clusters looking for where to keep their essentials and their little ones.

"I was almost moved to tears when I got to the affected villages because of the extent of the damages as the head of the government closest to them, but I hope NEMA will act swiftly".

He urged the affected families and villages to remain calm as they expect succor from the government.
