Controversy trails Owa Ajimoko III Coronation Committee Membership as Listing of Prof. Wale Omole as Chairman Surfaces

A 13-member Coronation committee has been established by His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Ajimoko III, the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, in preparation for his coronation.

The high-power committee, led by Professor Wale Omole, is in charge of coordinating all arrangements for the event, which is scheduled as a weeklong series of activities across Ijesaland.

Other members of the 13-member committee are Alhaji Lateef  A. Bakare - Vice chairman, Lady Modupe Ajayi-Gbadebo - Secretary, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, Hon. Sunday Bisi, Mr Olusola Dada, Prof. Kolawole Kazeem, Prince Abimbola Olashore, Bayo Omole Esq, Dr Oladimeji Alo, Very Rev. Dr Ogunbeku, Mr. Ayo Odeyemi and Barr Dosu Babatunde.

On different WhatsApp platforms dominated by Ijesa elites, the appointment of Prof. Wale Omole who has unresolved questions about probity in the handling of the failed Owa Palace where he was the defacto Chairman has generated controversies.

This is coming on the trending excuses and claims that the late Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, CFR, LLD was a clog in the wheel of the committee charged with mobilizing for the funds of the failed Owa Palace.

The controversy over membership of the committee also questions why the hardworking and game changing Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi is left out of Owa Obokun Adimula Coronation where he would leverage his contacts for a world-class fiesta.

Reacting from his holiday in the USA one Ijesa Chief wrote:

"This is BAD news... Prof. Wale Omole as Chairman of the Coronation Committee of the Owá Obòkun Àdìmúlà of Ìjèsà land? Wooow!!

"Se kò si Èèyàn mo ni Ìjèsà land ni?

"This is a terrible ERROR!"

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

With the demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, the Owa Obokun Adimula (1982-2024), many comments flooded the condolence register. Encomiums on the life and times of the monarch dominated the airwaves.

The era of Kabiyesi is today being remembered for among other developments; the sprawling Owa Obokun Palace, Ijesaland Geriatric Center and Scholarship program for Ijesa scholars at the FSTC.

One worrisome issue to the Monarch was the moribund Owa Obokun Adimula Palace before the advent of Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi-led initiatives which gave birth to a new Owa Palace in a record time of mine months.

Blaming the transited Owa for the collapse of the defunct Palace would amount to perfidy and a dishonor to the memory of the departed hero.

No member of the then Owa Palace Committee headed by Late Justice Kayode Esho, Prof. Wale Omole and Chief Afolabi Igbaroola as Secretary, that also included Chief Akin Akinola, Prince Suyi Folowosele, Dr Ayo Fatubarin, Dame Yinka Obaleye and Mr Wale Idowu, or anyone could point out the involvement of late Owa in the project.

Donors from Ijesaland axis succeeded in raising over N100m duly recorded and accounted for.

Till date, the donations and receipts from the Lagos fund raising coordinated by Prof. Wale Omole are unknown to members of the Ijesaland axis including Obas Aromolaran when alive.

It will therefore be uncharitable for anyone to link the failure of the Palace to His Imperial Majesty who even bailed out the Lagos committee with N1m during their launch.

Again, Owa Adekunle Aromolaran did not collect a dime from the funds raised in Lagos or elsewhere.

On the whole Ijesa desires that the Coronation ceremony should be organized in such a way that will sustain and further the tempo of developments in Ijesaland these past six years
