The lying-in-state of Mr. Olatunbosun Awe took place on Friday morning with the Ijesa Sports Club members assembling to remember a beloved figure.
The passing of the serving treasurer of the Club in December sparked a wave of tributes from those lucky enough to be close to him
Olatunbosun Awe's lying-in-state was held at the Oladejo Fasuyi Court at the premises of the club house.
A host of Trustees of the Club, Past Presidents, Executive Committee members, members and staff of the club were also in attendance, including Ayo Odidi, Dr. Biodun Oginni, Otunba Jare Ayo Martins, Erelu Jumoke Olafadehan and Prince Adebola Garus, Mr. Ayinde Ishola aka Ohunfoloke to name just a few.
In his tribute The President, Otunba of the Club Dr. Kayode Arimoro extended his heartfelt greetings to all Club members, as well as to the immediate family of the departed member.
"The news of his passing has left a profound void in our hearts and within the Club. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, and his memory will be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
"To his wife, children, and the entire family he left behind, I offer my deepest condolences. May God provide you with strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time, and may His presence meet you at every moment of need.
"Mr. Olatunbosun Julius Awe was not only a dedicated member of this Club, but he was also a pillar of support. His passion for sports, particularly table tennis, was evident in the immense time and effort he dedicated to the section. As a former chairman, his leadership played a vital role in the growth and success of the section, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and engagement among members.
"In addition to his contributions to the table tennis section, Mr. Awe served the Club in various other significant roles. He was an exceptional Auditor, Financial Secretary, and until his untimely passing, he held the position of Club Treasurer. His attention to detail, professionalism, and dedication to excellence set a standard for us all. His integrity and commitment to the Club’s well-being were qualities we deeply admired.
"Though he has left this world, his legacy remains with us. The mark he left on our lives and the relationships he nurtured will never fade. I encourage the family and all members to take comfort in the belief that life continues beyond this earthly realm, and may God grant him forgiveness for any shortcomings.
"May God grant our beloved brother eternal rest and provide his family and loved ones with the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. Mr. Olatunbosun Julius Awe was born on June 14,1965 to the family of Pa Michael Ayodele and Mama Lucia Babasola Ikotun Awe at P.D.7 Isale General Street, Ilesa, Osun State.
From an early age, he established remarkable qualities of diligence, kindness and strong sense of responsibility. His upbringing laid the foundation of the values of integrity, hardwork and service to humanity, thus that defined his life.
EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Olatunbosun Julius Awe was a firm believer in the power of education. He attended his primary school at St Mary's Primary School, Oke Padre, Ilesa between year 1972-1978 and proceeded to St. Lawrence Secondary School, Imo, Ilesa in the year 1979 and completed the secondary school education in 1984. He later got admission into the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he bagged his first degree in Accounting. Furthermore, he pursued his study with dedication and went for a professional course under The Institute Of Chartered Accountants Of Nigeria (ICAN).
Over the years, he built a career marked by excellence, commitment and a passion for making a difference in his field. His professional contributions earned him the respect of colleagues and the admiration of many.
PERSONAL LIFE AND LEGACY
Beyond his career, Olatunbosun was a devoted family man, who got married to his loving wife on 27th of February, 1996, at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedra, Ilesa. He was caring father to his three sons and a daughter. He was also a reliable and dependable friend to his allies .He was known for his generosity, wisdom and unwavering support for those around him. His presence brought joy and comfort to many. His home was always a place of warmth and hospitality.
He worked brieflv in the Account Department of the International Brewery, Ilesa and rose to the status of the company's Chief Accountant (Cash Office).
After his retirement in the Brewery, he joined his parents in Event Management with the Sales of series of Drinks. He eventually established his personal business in Event Planning and Hospitality Management which he did till his last breath on Ist of March, 2025.
He was the Chief Executive Officer of Golden Mirror Hotel, Ijoka, Ilesa.
He was an astute entrepreneur, hardworking, diligent and responsible family man
IMPACTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS
Mr Olatubosun Awe was a devout Catholic, between 1989-1991, he was the President of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), St Mary's Parish Ilesa. He also pioneered the establishment of the Boys Brigade Club of Nigeria in the Church.
Throughout his life, Olatunbosun Julius Awe was deeply committed to his community and was actively involved in initiatives that uplifted others.
He was a proud member and the treasurer of Ijesa Sports Club, Ilesa till his last breath.
He was one of the executive members of the Hoteliers of Ijesaland. He was also the Auditor of the Hoteliers Association of Osun State. He was also one of the members of the Police Community Relations Committee (P.C.R.C), Ayeso till his last breath.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Whether through mentorship, charitable acts, or simply being a guiding light, he left an incredible mark on countless lives. His contributions will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though, Olatunbosun has departed from this world, his legacy remains alive in the hearts of those he touched.
