LG CRISIS: Osun Market Women Decry Poor Sanitation Condition...

The Egbe Olobi (Kolanut Sellers Association) of Sabo/Irojo market Market of Ilesa East local government, Osun State are voicing concerns about the poor sanitation conditions within the market, including issues with waste disposal, which are impacting their health and well-being.

Their position was expressed when the representatives of the association paid a courtesy visit on the Executive Chairman of Ilesa East local government, Hon. Lanre Balogun and the councilors at the Iyemogun Secretariat on Tuesday.

Since the local government workers have embarked on their indefinite sit-at-home strike the waste disposal arrangement of the whole market has collapsed resulting in the piling up of garbages, contaminating food and the environment.

"We are vulnerable to health problems due to long hours of work in unsanitary environments. Many of us have recently suffered from dysentery and typhoid.

"Many of our customers from the northern part of the country and even coming from as far as Republic  of Benin have also complained about the unsavory situation and this is having a negative impact on our business." They complained

In his reply, Hon. Lanre Balogun appealed to the market women to join their voices with that of the reasonable citizens of the state who are condemning the flagrant partisanship of the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

"NULGE should be apolitical, the decision of the Osun NULGE chairman, Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe to direct Osun local government workers to stay away from work is selfish and it's having adverse effects on all  and sundry." Lanre Balogun remarked

Hon. Lanre Balogun also promised to construct more lockup shops at the market.
