Rainstorms rip off roofs of buildings in UniIlesa and many Ijesa communities...IDC makes On-the-spot tour of affected structures.... seeks NEMA, OSEMA assistance






Rainstorms that hit some communities of Ijesaland on Tuesday and Sunday have led to the destruction of structures within Ijesaland.


The rainstorms occurred on Tuesday 11th in the morning and Sunday 16th of March 2025 evening.


The windy storms ripped off the roof of buildings, uprooted trees, damaged electric poles and brought down giant billboards 


Roofs of many structures at the University of Ilesa were damaged.


The suburbs affected by the storm included, Ibodi, Osu, Iwaraja, Iwoye, Ijebujesa, Odogo-Ijesa, Itegun-Ijesa, Iwaraja, Ilaa-Ijesa among other places.



During the on-the-spot appraisal of the level of havoc wreaked by the rainstorms, the Ijesa Development Council (IDC) represented by Prof. Oladiipo Folorunso and Dr. Biodun Ogunbeku regretted the alarming rate of destruction of buildings.

KAKAKIOODUA gathered that, the IDC after a coordinated approach to cover all affected communities over Ijesaland will do an assessment of the extent of damage on structures with the aim of having a coordinated response to mitigating the impact of the destruction and also determine how the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) can be of assistance.

Many of the TETFUND assisted projects of the University of Ilesa were affected. Worst hit was TETFUND normal intervention project 2022 completed but yet to be handed over which rooftop was completely blown off. 






Other affected structures at the University campus included the recently donated Nursing laboratory  building where the ceiling at the balcony was completely destroyed; the Senate building where the Chairman and Pro Chancellor's office were affected.







At the Faculty of Law the ceilings of the e-library and that of the administrative building were detached while at the Faculty of Education the roof and classrooms' ceilings were affected giving room to leakages.







Other affected structures were the transformer's house, Faculty of Arts TETFUND 2011 SIP Project, Computer based Testing Auditorium, TETFUND 2014 SIP project, Faculty of Law auditorium, TETFUND 2022 project maintenance, Faculty of Computing Annex, Faculty of Science, TETFUND Special Intervention project 


 

The IDC inspection team later moved to Ibodi and Osu towns.

At Ibodi, Temidire Elementary Model School, roofs of some blocks of classrooms were blown off while at the Atakumosa High School, Osu, the whole roof of the school's Computer laboratory was damaged. Conducting the team round the affected structures in the school the Vice Principal, Mr. Oyebiyi Opeyemi, said some other structures that were slightly affected had already been fixed.





At Ijebujesa, the team headed to the palace of the Elegboro of Ijebujesa, HRM Oba Olufemi Agunsoye who had taken the bull by the horns in advance of the inspection visit of the IDC. 


Oba Engr. Agunsoye had initiated a visit of the officials of Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) which he personally led to Iwoye-Ijesa and Odogo-Ijesa. While welcoming the IDC delegation to his palace the royal father remarked that the IDC on-the-spot inspection portrays that its intervention approaches spread all over Ijesaland as he handed over a letter he had already prepared to be delivered to the NEMA office with attached images of affected structures.





The inspection tour thereafter moved to Okebode, Atakumosa west local government where HRM Ezekiel Adeniran Agunlejika (Anirinbiogun IV) Olokebode of Okebode received the IDC team in his palace.







At Okebode, High Chief Oluwole Famoyegun, Salotun of Okebode led the team on an inspection visit to the affected buildings that included the Apostolic Church pastor's house.
