The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has tasked the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government (NULGE) not to be deceived by the state Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration over the current plight of the local government administration in the state.
It is imperative to educate the national President of NULGE, Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, who we are aware was recently elected into the office, not to be hoodwinked by the Osun State government to lead his executive members into an unholy and perfidious alliance with the state government of Osun under the pretence that all is well with the NULGE in the state.
We want to inform the national President of NULGE that the true plight of the NULGE in Osun State today is that the pressure group has been factionalized into two as the Association of Concerned Local Government Employees(ACLGE) ably led by Comrade Tirimisiyu Adekunle and Comrade Akinkunmi Adepoju, has emerged.
We were surprised that the state leadership of the factionalized NULGE, led by a lapdog of the state government, Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, failed to inform the national President of the pressure group that it has become an arm of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state which has refused to honour the Court of Appeal judgement of the 10th of February, 2025 which reinstated the APC local government council chairmen and councillors.
Since the landmark judgement of the Court of Appeal that reinstated the APC local government council chairmen and councillors, the factionalized and politicized state leadership of the NULGE has refused to resume work in all the local government council areas in a manner apparently solidarizing with the Governor Adeleke-led administration which has no regard for the rule of law.
We want to intimate the national leadership of the NULGE that he and the members of his executive were brought down to Osun State to play a dirty politics which is far from being the reality of the situation in all the local government council areas in the state.
The leadership of the Osun State factionalized NULGE, with its activities , has been playing opposition roles against the APC more than the ruling party in the state.
It is necessary for Comrade Kankara to refuse to be misled by the administration of Governor Adeleke which can corrupt the holiest of the Angels in order to ensure that the rule of law is stabbed on the head without minding the negative consequences.
We were expecting the so-called factionalized Osun State NULGE to have fed the visiting national NULGE President and the members of his executives with the information that one of the reinstated local government council chairmen, Hon Remi Abass, in charge of Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state and about five other members of our party were slaughtered like rams by the PDP hoodlums across the state sometime ago.
We want to use this medium to plead with the national leadership of the NULGE to impress it on the factionalized state NULGE leadership to end the shunning of the local government councils which they embarked upon over two months ago which has subsequently crippled the third tier of government in the state since over two months ago.
The national President of the NULGE is hereby reminded that the Osun State Government flouted the advisories of the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police when the duo expressly told Governor Adeleke that there was no need for any local government council elections in the state as there were no vacancies.
When a state government begins to be cantankerous with the Chief Law Officer of the country and the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the country, then there is more to that government that meets the eyes.
The National NULGE, for pecuniary gains, should not be tempted or rammed to be on the other side of the law of the country. Encouraging brazen disobedience to the Court of Appeal judgement will have grave and unmitigated consequences on the integrity of the NULGE.
